Nothing gives me a warm fuzzier feeling than when my tribe get really curious and run with their creative expression. When people say I'm not creative I call BS - human beings have been creative beings long enough and consistently enough that it truly is a natural impulse.
The earliest evidence of human art is forty thousand years old. The earliest evidence of human agriculture by contrast, is only ten thousand years old. Which means that somewhere in our collective evolutionary story, we decided it was way more important to make attractive, superfluous items than it was to learn how to regularly feed ourselves!
Being 'creative' doesn't just have to mean picking up a brush and paint, it comes in the form of self care, daily gratitude, the way we move our bodies through exercise, the way someone drinks their coffee or the words they use to express themselves.
So what exactly is a creative life?
To me, a creative life is an amplified life.
It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life. Living in this manner - continually and stubbornly bringing forth both the pain and the pleasure that is hidden within you - is a fine art, in and of itself but as humble warriors, we strive for excellence not perfection. Real, raw and vulnerable excellence.
To be creative in the every day is to allow the ebbs and flows of life to wash over you. To sit with the between shades of grey moments.
That's what creative living is.
